How to play Rarest Answer

Rarest Answer flips normal trivia upside down. You don’t need to know the answer — you need to know one almost nobody else would say out loud.

The daily dig, step by step

  1. One dig per day. Every player gets the same 7 questions, generated at 00:00 UTC. No account needed — your progress is saved in your browser.
  2. 25 seconds per question. The timer starts the moment the question appears. Type an answer and press Enter as many times as you like.
  3. First correct guess scores. The moment one of your guesses is valid, the question is scored and moves on. Faster isn’t better — rarer is better.
  4. Miss or run out of time? The question scores zero, and the full curated answer list is revealed.
  5. Seven answers, 700 points max. Your total updates your best score and, if you complete the dig, your streak.

The four rarity tiers

Every question carries a hand-curated answer list. Curators sort each valid answer into one of four tiers:

Common25 pts

The answer almost everyone reaches for first. Valid, but obvious.

Uncommon55 pts

A solid answer hiding just beyond the obvious.

Rare80 pts

A deep cut that takes real recall — the sweet spot.

Stellar100 pts

A valid answer almost nobody remembers. Bragging rights.

A worked example

Take the question “Name an animal that can fly but is not a bird.” Its list starts like this:

Common · 25
  • bat
  • butterfly
  • bee
Uncommon · 55
  • flying fish
  • dragonfly
  • flying squirrel
Rare · 80
  • pterodactyl
  • sugar glider
  • flying snake
Stellar · 100
  • colugo
  • hawk moth
  • gliding squid

Guess “bat” and you bank 25. Say “sugar glider” and you nearly quadruple it. The colugo — the flying lemur of Southeast Asia — is the kind of memory that wins the day.
